Racing in 1956 - Winning a World Championship

 

Freddie Goehl's started racing for Quincy Welding in the 1950's. At the Division IV races at Little Rock, Arkansas, in May of 1956, Freddie tood a 3rd in B Hydro and a 2nd in B Runabout. David Christner, son of O. F. Christner, also took a 2nd in A Hydro at the event. Dieter Konig, who would one day become a fierce competitor of Quincy Welding, finished 2nd in B Hydro at that event. Freddie, at the Division I World Championships in Minden, Louisiana, took 2nd place in B Runabout, finishing ahead of 3rd place David Christner. Freddie also won 1st place in B Runabout at the Division IV World Championships.

Racing in 1957 - Another World Championship

 

May 26th of 1957 found Freddie at the Division I & IV regatta at Canton, Illinois. Freddie took a 2nd in B Runabout, 2nd in C-D Runabout while David Christner took a 1st in A Runabout. At the Div I & IV event at Helena, Arkansas in June, Freddie took home a 2nd in B Runaboutand in Springfield, IL on July 4th, Freddie took a 2nd in B Hydro and won B Runabout, beating out David Christner who finished 2nd. Two days later in Hudwon, Wisconsin, Freddie won B Runabout and took a 2nd in D Runabout. The next day at Mattoon, IL Freddie finished 3rd in B Hydro, 2nd in B Runabout and 2nd in C-D Runabout. (That's 3 race events in less than 5 days!) On July 14th at Winona, Minnesota, Freddie won the C-D-F Hydro class, took 2nd place in C-D Runabout and 3rd in B Runabout. It was a good day at the races for the Quincy Welding race team as David Christner took 1st in A Hydro & B Hydro and Jim Schoch took a 1st in C Service Runabout. Freddie won D Runabout at the Meyer, Illinois Div IV races, beating out famous racer Dick Pond.At the Division IV World Championships in October at Corpus Christi, Texas, Freddie Goehl achieved his 2nd World Championship title by winning F Hydro.

Freddie took home many first place trophies in the summer of 1958. At the June 29th Professional races at Canton, IL Freddie took a 1st in B Runabout. At the Springfield, IL Professional races he took 1st place in B Runabout & D Runabout. At the Professional races at Winona, MN on July 13th, Freddie took 1st in both B & D Runabout. One week later at Minneapolis, MN at the Professional race event, Freddie took 1st place in B & D Runabout classes again. Freddie also took a 1st place in B Runabout at the Pro races in LaGrange, MO on August 10th. At the Pro World Championships held in McAlester, Oklahoma, the Rooster Tail reported a total of 424 unqualified entrants plus 39 qualified drivers who had qualified by participating in their Zone Championships or by holding current World Championship in their class. Freddie Goehl took a 2nd in both B Runabout and D Runabout at the Championships.


1958 North-South Championship

 

At the North-South Championships, held at Old Hickory Lake in Tenn, before a crowd of 20,000 spectators, Freddie helped the North defeat the South by taking a 2nd in D Hydro. Arlen Crouch, racing for the Quincy Welding team, took a 1st in C Hydro and David Christner took a 1st in A Runabout.

At the Alexandria, Louisiana regatta at Fort Buhlow Lake in June of 1961, Freddie Goehl was the 1961 Louisiana State Champion titles in C Runabout, D Runabout and F Runabout. He also finished 3rd in D Hydro, 4th in F Hydro and 3rd in B Runabout plus set a new straight-a-way record of 52.401 mph.
