1965 - Dick racing at Sanford, MI

Dick Austin and John McMullen at Sandford Lake, MI, in 1965. Dick started racing in the F Alky Hydro Class. In his third year he won the APBA Nationals at Depue, the APBA National High Point, the NOA Nationals at Sandford Lake MI and set a new NOA F Hydro straight-a-way record. On one of the many attempts, he made a one way pass of 110.4 MPH.

First heat of F - 1000cc Hydros at the NOA Nationals at Alexandria, LA. John McMullen is at the center of photo and Dick Austin at left. Both John and Dick won their qualifying heats with Quincy Modified Mercs. They finished the finals with John taking 1st and Dick taking 2nd place.

In 1968 Dick not only won the World Championship in F Hydro, he also set a world speed record for the 1/2 mile straightaway in F Hydro at 107.143 mph with his Quincy modified Merc.

1968 NOA National at Forest Lake Minnesota. Please note on the trailer that Dick was the 1966 NOA World Champion in F Hydro and also set a speed record of 107.143 (at Lake Sanford, MI) with a Quincy mod Merc.
